Pelvicachromis
Pelvicachromis is a genus of African cichlids that inhabit freshwater in West and Central Africa. There are several species in the genus, including:
- Pelvicachromis pulcher – also known as kribensis, is one of the most popular species kept in aquariums. It has a colorful appearance with red, yellow, and blue colors.
- Pelvicachromis taeniatus – is another popular species that comes in several different color variations, including green and red.
- Pelvicachromis humilis – is a smaller species that has a beige or gray body color.
Pelvicachromis cichlids are popular among aquarium hobbyists due to their colorful appearance and peaceful temperament. They are also relatively easy to care for and thrive in an aquarium with plenty of hiding places and vegetation. Because they are mouthbrooders, where the female takes care of the eggs and young in her mouth, they are also known for their attentive parenting.
