Mikrogeophagus
Mikrogeophagus is a genus of small, colorful cichlids native to South America. There are two species in the genus:
- Mikrogeophagus ramirezi – also known as the German blue ram, is a popular aquarium fish known for its bright blue and yellow colors.
- Mikrogeophagus altispinosus – also known as the Bolivian ram, has a brownish-gray body with orange and red highlights.
Mikrogeophagus cichlids are relatively peaceful and are suitable for community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive fish. They prefer soft, acidic water with plenty of vegetation and hiding places. Like many cichlid species, they are also mouthbrooders and exhibit attentive parenting behaviors. However, they can be more sensitive to water conditions than some other cichlid species and may require more careful water management.
